5 Days | The Zebra Kingdom & The Lion’s Empire

Tour Overview

This 5-day odyssey is designed for the traveler who seeks a blend of raw adventure and refined serenity. We begin in the intimate, whispering grasslands of Lake Mburo—where ancient Ankole cattle graze alongside the wild—and transition into the dramatic, volcanic rift valley of Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to the legendary tree-climbing lions.

The Beginning of the Trek

Day 1: Into the Rift Valley

  • Transfer from Entebbe/Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Entebbe or Kampala. You’ll head west through Uganda’s countryside, passing vibrant towns like Masaka and Mbarara. Along the way, enjoy scenic views of rolling hills, farms, and traditional homesteads.
You’ll arrive at Queen Elizabeth National Park in the afternoon and check into your lodge. Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy a short evening game drive or simply relax and take in the surrounding wilderness.

Day 2: The Predator & The Waterway

  • Start the day early with a sunrise game drive in the Kasenyi plains. This is prime time to spot lions, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and possibly leopards. The cool morning hours offer excellent wildlife viewing and photography opportunities.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This natural channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and attracts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the park. Expect close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, and a wide variety of bird species along the shores.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking & Transfer to Lake Mburo

  • Morning: Descend into the "Valley of Apes" for a guided chimpanzee trek. You’ll navigate steep, lush terrain to observe chimps and other primates in a unique sunken forest.

  • Midday: A scenic drive through western Uganda, passing through Mbarara and the rolling hills of Ankole cattle country.

  • Evening: Arrival at Lake Mburo for a quiet evening. You can choose to relax at the lodge or head out for a game drive to see zebras and impalas.

Day 4: Game Drive & Walking Safari in Lake Mburo

  • Begin the day with a morning game drive in Lake Mburo National Park. This park is known for its zebras, impalas, elands, and giraffes, offering a different wildlife experience from Queen Elizabeth.
Later, enjoy a guided walking safari—one of the unique activities permitted in this park. Walking through the savannah with a ranger allows for a closer, more intimate encounter with nature, including tracking animals on foot and learning about smaller ecosystems.
